John Thomas Hurley, Sr. entered eternal life on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 88 years. He was born on December 18, 1935, in Ridge, Texas to parents, Lee Scott Hurley, Sr. and Ercel Miller Hurley.
John received his primary education in Ridge, Texas and later graduated from Franklin High School. He entered the United States Army serving his country from 1955-1957 stationed in Alaska and California. John married his wife of 65 years, JoAnn Lundy in Houston, Texas and made their home in Houston where they raised their children, Ginger and John T. John traveled many miles around the country following their swimming careers. He was employed as a refiner in Houston for 34 years before his retirement. In 1998 he and JoAnn returned to Ridge where he lived his 25-year retirement ranching. He was an avid follower of the Franklin Lions football team until the very end. John was a regular attendee of the First Baptist Church in Franklin and served on the board of the Holly Cemetery Association. John never met a stranger which was highly influenced by his gift of gab!
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Scott Hurley, Sr. and Ercel Hurley and his brother, Lee Scott Hurley, Jr.
John is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn L. Hurley of Ridge, daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Hurley of Hempstead, son and daughter-in-law, John Thomas Hurley, II and Amy Hurley of Franklin. He also leaves behind his 3 precious grandsons, John T. Hurley, III, David J. Hurley and Bennett L. Hurley and a host of nieces and nephews and his unofficial adopted daughter Roslin Copeland.
Services for John Hurley will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. with a visitation held from 12:00 P.M. until service time at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas. A burial will follow where he will be laid to rest with family in the Holly Cemetery in Ridge, Texas.
